While no one wishes to think about one’s death, it is always best to plan for what happens to your assets and look after your next of kin. The best way to do this is by creating a Will.
A Will is a legal document which sets out instructions on how you wish to distribute your Estate. These instructions are given to an Executor who has the role of distributing your the bequests which you have made in your Will. In most cases, the assets of the estate are frozen until a Grant of Probate issues.
The making of a Will can also be a good opportunity for parents to appoint guardians of their infant children should there be an unexpected early death of one or both of the parents. In this situations, trustees are usually appointed to look after the assets of the minor children until they reach the age of majority or the age selected by you.
Every Will is different and it is important to take time to ensure that your Will is drafted in accordance with your wishes. It is always best to do this with your solicitor whom you can trust to take you through the process with the benefit of their expertise.
