We know how stressful mental health law issues can be for the individual and their support circle. That is why we endeavour to advise you in an approachable and supportive manner.

At Patricia Holohan & Company, we are aware that there have been important and big changes in the law surrounding mental health and capacity generally. We have the skill set and knowledge to support you.

Patricia is a Legal Representative appointed by the Mental Health Commission and represents clients in relation to involuntary detentions in approved centres in the North East and Dublin. She has a wealth of experience supporting patients who are admitted involuntarily to psychiatric hospitals. In accordance with the Mental Health Act 2001, where you have been detained involuntarily, a tribunal must be held within 21 days to determine the admissibility of your involuntary detention. Patricia regularly represents her clients in these proceedings.

Patricia is also a professional Decision-Making Representative appointed from time to time by the High Court to assist a person who needs such service. With the recent changes under the Mental Health Act, the duty of the Wards of Court has been passed to Decision-Making Representatives. Patricia has represented clients for many years in applying for Wardship, and now in the discharge of Wardship.

Patricia’s interest in Mental Health & Capacity Law stems from her kindness but also from her experience raising a child with special needs. She is aware of the additional challenges people with mental health and capacity issues face. She also ensures that they fully understand the proceedings and that they feel comfortable throughout the process.
