Patricia is a Legal Representative appointed by the Mental Health Commission and represents clients in relation to involuntary detentions in approved centres in the North East and Dublin. She has a wealth of experience supporting patients who are admitted involuntarily to psychiatric hospitals. In accordance with the Mental Health Act 2001, where you have been detained involuntarily, a tribunal must be held within 21 days to determine the admissibility of your involuntary detention. Patricia regularly represents her clients in these proceedings.

Patricia is also a professional Decision-Making Representative appointed from time to time by the High Court to assist a person who needs such service.

Patricia’s interest in Mental Health & Capacity Law stems from her kindness but also from her experience raising a child with special needs. She is aware of the additional challenges people with mental health and capacity issues face. She also ensures that they fully understand the proceedings and that they feel comfortable throughout the process.With the introduction of the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act, 2015, a three tier of decision making was established to assist persons with decision making, ranging from decision-making supporter, co-decision maker to decision-making representative. Patricia is a professional decision-making representative and is appointed to this role through Court Orders. Patricia has also acted over the years in wardship matters and is now actively involved in many applications for discharge from wardship.

Patricia holds a Certificate in Mental Health, Capacity and the Law and boasts a wealth of knowledge in the area of Mental Health & Capacity Law.
